The eduroam federation is an international project dealing with the promotion of mobility and roaming in national research and education networks (NREN). In the Czech Republic, the CESNET association oversees this project. Our institution joined eduroam in 2023.
A registered user can use this wireless network (wherever it is available) using one user account. The account is managed by the user's home organization.
Using roaming is simple, if properly set up, a user's device connects automatically as soon as the eduroam network is available. This is similar to how your cell phone can roam and connect to a cell phone network of another provider in a another country. Hence the acronym: education roaming.
The service is free for users that are part of an eduroam member organization.
In eduroam, a username consisting of two parts is used - the username itself and the realm. When connecting to the eduroam network, you will have to add the @ sign and the realm eli-beams.eu to the username you are used to using to log in to other eli-beams.eu services. Example eduroam username: john.smith@eli-beams.eu. All users with an active eli-beams.eu account can use eduroam.
To connect to the eduroam network in ELI Beamlines, connect to the Wi-Fi named eduroam. It is usually not necessary to manually change the settings of the device you're trying to connect with.
To set up the connection manually, you will need the following information:

The entire ELI Beamlines facility is covered.
Traffic is filtered in accordance with the laws of the Czech Republic.
ELI Beamlines users can contact helpdesk.
Visitors with an eduroam account should seek support primarily from their home institution, i.e. the one that provided them with the account.
